The Young and the Restless spoilers say that Robert Newman’s life has surely changed for the better in the last few weeks. That’s because when the producers of Y&R reached out to him to see if he could replace outgoing actor Richard Burgi as the new Ashland Locke on the show, he was absolutely floored. Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Robert said that once he agreed to the part on The Young and the Restless, he had to make some dramatic changes in his life. That’s because he was still living on the East Coast when he got the phone call from the Y&R producers to join the show. Robert told the publication, “I had to do a thousand different things before I got on the plane Saturday morning. In the meantime, they sent me five scripts to shoot on three different days my first week, like, ‘Hey, here’s a nice easy starting week! Here you go, here’s five episodes, one on Tuesday, two on Thursday and two on Friday! Welcome to the show!’ So at the same time as I’m getting these thousand things done, I’m also tearing apart these scripts.”

That said, the veteran actor managed to get through everything like a pro. Even though he hasn’t been on a daytime television show in more than a decade, he still used his memory muscle to his full advantage.

The Young and the Restless Spoilers: What’s Next For Ashland Locke?

Robert continued, “My brain has not been sitting dormant for 12 years; I’ve been doing four to six plays or musicals every year that also require extensive memorization and work and preparation, but I haven’t wrapped my brain around a soap opera script in a really long time.”
