The Young and the Restless spoilers say that for Tessa Porter (Cait Fairbanks) and Mariah Copeland (Camryn Grimes) that are about to face a lot of changes in their lives, and while some of them are pretty exciting, they will also face some challenges, too. In fact, actress Cait Fairbanks recently opened up about the couple’s decision to adopt a child the moment they officially tie the knot together. But for Cait she says that she’s happy that her character has been so accepted by fans of the show. Keep reading below for all of the spoilers you need to know.
Speaking to Soap Opera Digest in a new interview, Cait admits that it was also surprising to finally hear Tessa and Mariah refer to themselves as a sex-same couple because their sexual orientation has never been mentioned on air. She said, “I know! When Camryn [Grimes, Mariah] and I first read that, we were like, ‘Oh, my God! Here we go! We’re saying it!’ Yeah, it was really interesting. There are so many times I’ve asked, ‘Have we ever acknowledged that?’ It’s a thing, we assume, that everyone knows when they see them, like, ‘Of course they are!’”
Cait also revealed that she appreciates that there hasn’t been any pushback to the pairing on air, both from producers and from The Young and the Restless fans. She said, “Oh, of course. It’s been lovely that people have been so accepting, especially Mariah’s mom. There’s never been a question with Sharon of whether or not that part of her daughter’s relationship is okay, which is nice. Of course, if it wasn’t, then it would be a matter of, ‘It’s none of your damn business,’ but it’s never come to that.”
The talented actress also said that she appreciates the fact that her character’s sexual orientaiton has been accepted by so many fans and viewers of the show, too. “It does reach a point of, ‘Where’s the rest of America?’ When I travel to another part of the country and listen to some of the things that people say around me, I have to remind myself, ‘Oh, wow. I’m not in California anymore.’ It’s just a mindset that, of course, I wish was different, but there’s a reality there, that to do this thoughtfully and eloquently can be really hard for the writers. I don’t envy them but they always do a wonderful job,” she explained.

I am old school. And I don’t believe likes these kind of relationships. Sex should be between a man and a woman. I will never accept this. I tape Y&R. And when these two come on together , I fast forward. I can’t imagine two women making love. Who’s the man and whose the woman? Have a really getting so absurd. I would have to leave the show , if it depended on me acting like this. That’s my opinion and I sticking to it
I also fast forward through these parts.
