Jack took an unexpected trip and was out of town in the days following Christmas and during New Year’s Eve. That left Phyllis alone, which Lauren Fenmore Baldwin (Tracey Bregman) helped rectify via an invite to her end-of-the-year family party.

News that Bergman suffered a detached retina and required emergency surgery put on-screen developments into perspective. That real-life health issue caused the writing staff to adapt Phyllis’ storyline, which appeared to be heading toward time with Jack during holiday week.

Bergman’s surgery and recovery went well. He is back on the set, meaning Jack will soon be seen again in Genoa City, Wisconsin.

Committing does not mean sudden engagement or marriage plans. No, Jack needs to consider whether pursuing Phyllis is something he can handle or would be right for either person.

Stafford’s return to the cast in 2019 began a process that has produced a wiser Phyllis. She is not bent on revenge at every turn, is not nearly as self-centered, and is more introspective.

Phyllis is far more considerate of the impact her actions have on those she cares for. Her thoughts and the discussions she is having with various people are geared toward Jack’s well-being, rather than just her own.

The new year brings opportunities for everyone in GC. Hopefully, TPTB give this one-time couple a real chance to explore what could be in 2022.
