General Hospital news says that just because he’s not playing Jason Morgan, the character that helped make him a household name, that doesn’t mean he’s throwing in the towel for good. As a matter of fact, Steve Burton recently admitted that he has “several doors of opportunity open” for him, hinting that fans might be seeing him on the canvas sooner rather than later. Here’s what you need to know.
As many fans know by now, Steve was forced to walk away from the hit ABC soap after he refused to comply with the network’s vaccine mandate. He decided to address his departure from the show in a video that he posted on social media shortly after the announcement was made.
According to the latest edition of Soap Opera Digest, Steve began his video by saying that there were a lot of rumors swirling around about his status from the show and wanted to address them personally. He said, “Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions and both of those were denied, which, you know, hurts. But this is about personal freedom to me.”
However, Steve went on to say that it’s not all gloom and doom as there’s a possibility that fans might see him on the canvas sooner rather than later. Steve said that while he will always be grateful for his time at General Hospital, he knows that new beginnings are ahead for him.
He continued, “I grew up with some of you, so I will always be grateful and I believe when one door closes, multiple doors open.”
If that weren’t enough, during his most recent podcast with Bradford Anderson, Steve did admit that some of those doors are opening for him, which has prompted a lot of fans to wonder if this means that he’ll be switching to a new soap soon. Watch this space as we have a feeling that this won’t be the last that we’ll hear from Steve Burton.

Not that interest in GH since Steve left
Love Steve but if he doesn’t come back to GH no sense in watching him on another soap .
Bring back Steve Burton to G H
Yes many doors have opened for Steve. He is a great actor and person. Do I miss Stone Cold Jason Morgan ? YES!! IfABC and GH don’t come to their senses other smarter networks will jump at the chance to have Steve on their show. He has a huge following. Fans love him . Whoever is smart enough to hire Steve Burton will be rewarded with tremendous ratings. Merry Christmas, Steve.
I don’t think so he’s basically a one character actor, he left before and ask to return because he did not have as much influence and demands the other show.He should return soon because his base is not as large as it was. His character is not as popular and he’s aging fast. GH fans are the ones that attend his shows. He’s old school now. They should have never broken up Jasam, this couple could have matured together as a loving family.
It’s a shame general hospital is only soap with a mandate.
I have watched general hospital since the day it started in 1963 I was 3, I have loved this show and been a faithful fan until this vaccine mandate and the firing of Jason and Jax I have since stopped watching and plan to never watch it again unless they drop the mandate and fire Nancy I use to love her but after comments about putting the unvaccinated on an island with no food to let them die, I will not watch anything she is on
The mandate is there to protect the other actors as well as to protect people like Steve and Ingo! I wish the mandate never had to be put in place but because people don't listen to science and didn't get the shot they had to mandate the work environment. I'm glad abc was looking out for ALL the actors. I find it irresponsible anybody not getting the shot when you're in such close contact with your fellow workers to take and spread this deadly virus that's just not having any kind of a heart or care about your fellow man would you kiss somebody that had not been vaccinated if it meant you getting covid. Sometimes you have too THINK OF OTHERS!!!
I have watched GH since it's inception and I have not watched since this COVID-19 debacle. Tristan Rogers is my long time favorite and Steve Burton since his arrival. Many lives have been affected since the government has attempted to decide what we put in our bodies. I suppose when one decides what they believe, they believe it just as I believe what I believe. Sadly many passed away from this virus but many have also survived and we hear little about it. I have lost respect for the way Nancy Lee Grahn chose to express and execute her belief and it has affected how I feel about her as a person. I do respect Steve Burton's for standing up for his freedom to choose though he had COVID. I respect Ingo Rademacher's decision to decide what goes into his body. GH will not miss me. I am disappointed but not surprised at ABC....Politics and Big Business are not dependent on fans, if GH folds there is a time slot free for another endeavor. I'm done.
I am on the same page as you are about these Covid mandates that are trampling on our freedoms.
Have lost all respect for Nancy Lee Grahn while I have gained a tremendous amount MORE respect for Steve Burton and Ingo Rademacker.
You said it all very well and I’m in complete agreement. They, the writers, have done GH a huge injustice, as has ABC.
The writing has been going down hill but took a dive off the cliff with the ridiculous drown-out Sonny/Nina storyline. Did my best to stay with it, have even tried to deal with Nina having absolutely no consequences for what she has done, Sonny going soft on her deception to now have Ingo and Steve B. gone….not a good thing!
Wonder if GH will survive what is being done to it.
You have to find a way to bring Steve Burton back to GH. The show is going to hurt without him.
Don’t let anyone else grab him up. General Hospital will suffer in the ratings.
Realm sorry General Hospital let Steve Burton go sad sad day But, I pray someday Steve Burton comes back to General hospital :)I hope Steve Burton best of luck and sucess!
I always was a fan of Steve Burton and loved him as Jason Morgan. I do believe he has a right to make his choice, which he has done. The network had to think of everyone on the set and not just Steve. I applauded the network for brining in a vaccine mandate so the rest of the actors, cameramen, producers etc are safe from Covid. So best wishes Steve I wish you nothing but the best in your future endeavours. You have lost me as a fan but what is one fan, I cannot support your decisions and love GH enough to want everyone else safe.
If you are just soap jumping, that is a slap in the face to your fans that have watched you grow up on the show. I've watched for 44 years! If it is something else good luck. Still sorry to see you go.
