The Young and the Restless star Michael Mealor (ex-Kyle Abbott) has exciting news to share with his fans! While he’s no longer on the hit CBS soap, fans will get to see him on primetime television – and it’s a great one, too! Here’s what you need to know.

According to reports, Michael has nabbed a role on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia as a character by the name of Troy. If you are unfamiliar with the F/X series, it’s about a a group of so-called degenerates who love nothing more than to scheme, conspire, and mostly revel in each other’s misery at Paddy’s Pub. They also call themselves ‘The Gang.’ Sounds like fun! Michael’s first episode actually aired this week!

Back in September, Michael opened up to Soap Opera Digest about the reason why he decided to leave The Young and the Restless. He admitted admitted that his future relied on his contract negotiations with the producers of the show (as is the case with most daytime television actors). 

Michael put it this way, “My manager and I were working ourselves through it, and I think a couple of weeks into it … we were about to film a scene and, Hunter, correct me if I’m wrong, but it was, “Hey, I’ve got to talk to you about some business stuff.” I didn’t realize she was going through negotiations at the same time, so it kind of turned out to where I spilled everything.”

He continued, “Negotiations are a private thing, and I was like, “Hunter, this is what’s happening….” It’s difficult because you love the show and, you know, all that kind of stuff, and you’re so dedicated to it. I mean, it was my life. We worked 50 weeks a year, four days a week, so it becomes such a piece of your life and everyone there is family.”
